From time to time, I'll post challenge assignments. These are never required to do, but are assignments and experiences that I feel may deepen learning and that student who are finding the ideas of class interesting might actually enjoy. They might be watching certain movies/documentaries, attending community events, playing certain simulation games, reading connected fiction, doing specific current event work, etc. Challenges are labelled large or small- obviously large ones are worth more.
.Doing some of these is one way to improve your HW grade for the term. Trying the challenges doesn't automatically improve grades--there has to be a level of thoughtfulness to the work-but one cannot lower their grade by attempting the challenge.
Term 1: Challenges
Small Challenge #1 Due Friday 9/18
Watch 20 minutes of the Republican debate on CNN Wednesday night and do the response journal. Information is attached at bottom of the page. If you cannot watch, read and summarize 2 articles about the debate in a 1/2 page of writing. Be sure to list the names of the articles with your summary.
Small Challenge #2 Due Monday 9/28
Watch Star Trek Episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" and do the reflection questions attached. You can do these questions are on Googledocs and share them or do it on paper. You can get this on Netflix, can buy it for $1.99, or can come after school to watch it.
Background: This is one of the most famous episodes of the original Star trek, and it is listed as one of the best episodes for dealing with issues of diversity. It originally aired in early 1969. The episode deals with what happens when a prisoner from a planet escapes and is "rescued" by the Enterprise, and a government official wants to get him back.
